Title: Kitty Corner: Callie
Author: Ellen Miles
Genre: children’s fiction
Publishing Date: 2011
Pages: 96
Collection: my personal library
Read Before?: no
Read Again?: well, maybe

An okay little book, but not exactly great literature. I picked it up because we used to have a calico cat named Callie. But hey, it’s a kids’ book and it was worth the half an hour it took to read.

Title: Brave: The Junior Novelization
Author: Irene Trimble
Genre: children’s fiction
Publishing Date: 2012
Pages: 128
Collection: my personal library
Read Before?: no
Read Again?: sure

I am so excited for this movie! It’s a great story, and I love that the princess is a redhead *g* It doesn’t come out until the end of June, but I always like to read the book first, anyway. In general, I try to avoid the ‘junior novelization’, which tends to dumb stuff down unnecessarily, but since this is a kids’ movie, that’s okay.

I am observing lately that my doodles sell well. This is not a surprise: you’re always going to find more people with $30 than $3000. I’ve known this since my first livestream, even. And it’s deeply pleasing, because I make art, and the art leaves my hands, and I get some money in. If I didn’t enjoy the doodling, I wouldn’t be doing the Kickstarter Monday.

…but some part of me really, really wants to do the big ambitious pieces that no one can afford.

This is the point where treating art like a business will cause angst.

All people who do creative work for money recognize this particular conundrum. The extent to which we bow to Business Manager is the extent to which we thrive financially. But we wouldn’t be Artists if we didn’t fight for the reins… and if we didn’t feel it was our divine duty to win them and run off with the bit in our teeth on our madcap joys, screaming defiance.

What book have you re-read the most number of times, and why is it so worthy of repeated readings? Do you pick up new plot points or details each time, or do you simply find comfort in spending time with a favorite storyline and characters?

That's an easy question: The One Hundred and One Dalmations by Dodie Smith. The original version, that the Disney cartoon is only loosely based on. I've read it over 20 times (I lost count at about 23). I can't say I 'pick up' anything really new, but I definitely enjoy re-reading a great story- it's like spending time with an old friend. The copy I have was actually my mother's from high school, and she's read it as many times as I have. I love the story, of course, but this version also has the original illustrations, which are just wonderful

Title: The Hunger Games #3: Mockingjay
Author: Suzanne Collins
Genre: young adult fiction
Publishing Date: 2010
Pages: 400
Collection: my personal library (I think— these might actually be my brothers, but we don’t really keep track of these things)
Read Before?: no
Read Again?: um, not for a while

Actually, I don’t know how I feel about this one. I mean, I like it, but this whole series is just sort of heavy that I feel like I don’t really get it all. I think I’ll have to wait a while, then re-read the series to see if I understand it better.

It annoyed me in parts, then got better, then annoyed me again… But overall, it was a good read.
